SEPARABLE-PREFIX VERBS
Many German Verbs have a PREFIX which alters the meaning of the base verb.
These Prefixes are often prepositions or other verbs.

ankommen | aufrämen | ausgehen | kennenlernen |
anrufen | austehen | einkaufen | spazierengehen |

When these verbs are the inflected or conjugated verb in the sentence, the conjugated verb occupies second position and the prefix is the final element.
All other information appears between these two parts of the verb.

Again, elements other than the subject may occupy the first position in the sentence, but the conjugated verb remains second, the prefix in final position.
